Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

  • Are you struggling with uncomfortable thoughts and feelings (such as anxiety, overwhelm, self-doubt) that hold you back from living the life that you really want?
  • Do you rely on ineffective coping strategies that are costing you time, energy, money, health or relationships?
  • Do you feel as though drifting through life with no clear direction?

If so, you are likely to benefit from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

Acceptance and commitment therapy

What is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)?

In brief, ACT helps you to create a rich and meaningful life, while teaching you psychological skills to manage the pain and stress that are an inevitable part of life. ACT isn’t focused on ‘getting rid’ of symptoms.

You probably know from experience that the more you try to push down your feelings, the more they tend to build up.Through ACT you will learn how to ‘let go’ of your struggle with difficult thoughts and feelings so that they lose their power over you.

As a result, you can invest the time and energy that you previously spent battling with your emotions into things that take you towards a valued and meaningful life – whatever that means for you.

I really enjoyed the 1-2-1 ACT sessions with Lauren. Her style of therapy was very relaxed and supportive, making me feel as though she was accompanying me on the journey. Lauren was very responsive to how I was feeling and what I thought was important at the time. Her kind, patient and caring approach made me feel really comfortable and I always look forward to our next session. Joanna

What you can expect in sessions:

  • We usually start with an assessment to get a better understanding of the issue(s) that you would like help with
  • Identifying key patterns of thoughts, feelings or behaviours that seem to be holding you back or contributing to your issue
  • Exploring ways of managing these thoughts and feelings so that they lose their power over you (this includes mindfulness practice, visualisations and other psychological methods)
  • Connecting to your values – taking time to explore what really matters to you in your life
  • Goal-setting – taking practical steps to help you to move forwards in a new direction, while acknowledging and preparing for the thoughts and feelings that are likely to try to sabotage you!

I have absolutely no hesitation whatsoever in recommending Lauren’s services…She is an expert in her field, professional, friendly, patient, and completely approachable. I trusted her instinctively from the moment she phoned me in response to my enquiry and meeting her in person only reinforced that first impression. Elizabeth

Why me?

As a Psychologist (PhD), Yoga and Mindfulness Therapist and ACT practitioner, I have spent the last decade investing in my education and growth to build a repertoire of skills to help people to transform their mental health and live happier, healthier lives. As well as teaching Psychology at university-level, I regularly write articles and give talks around mental health and wellbeing.

The tools that I use have not only transformed the lives of my clients, but also my life! The ACT model helped me to connect with my values and carve out my own, unique path to creating a business and life that I love (at a time when I was feeling unfulfilled, doubtful and stuck!). Most importantly, it provides practical ways to manage the limiting beliefs and difficult feelings that we all experience.

It is my aim to help more people to feel empowered as they take positive and inspired action towards creating enriching and meaningful lives.

I came to see Lauren having met her once at a yoga class for self-compassion some time ago. I found that the information on her Facebook page relating to her ACT sessions really stuck a chord with me and I felt that it would be beneficial. Lauren made me feel welcome and at ease and took time to investigate and question some of the struggles I was having. We did some visualisation techniques, which actually really put things into prospective for me and we spoke about coping strategies and ideas and trying to become the person I hope to be and live a healthier lifestyle. Whilst I still have a way to go – I really feel that my ACT session with Lauren has laid the foundations for me to build a healthier and happier future.  I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone. How can we work together?

There are a couple of options for working together.

The first option is to book a 2 hour in-depth Life Clarity Session. This 2 hour in-depth session is a great way to help you to get clear on your goals and values, and gain clarity on what’s been holding you back. I will teach you simple and effective techniques to help you to move forwards and you will leave with an action plan. You will be asked to complete pre-session exercises and you will get handouts and email support for 2 weeks following the session. Your investment for this session is £97.

If you are struggling with anxiety or depression and need more support, I suggest starting with a 1 hour consultation and booking in more sessions regularly as needed. These sessions are £60.

Sessions will take place locally in Bournemouth or via Skype.

How do I book?
